Bio

I, Me, Mine

Let's see... I'm Melissa. Too brief? Yeah, I think so too. Since I imagine that in a more creative moment I will add to this bio, I'll just give something long winded. I live in scenic (or maybe not) Toledo, Ohio, home of glass (the glass city, that is), Jamie Farr (you know, the guy in the dress on MASH), and Katie Holmes (uh-huh, the Dawson's Creek girl turned TomKat fodder). I'm a graduate of Bowling Green State University (go Falcons), having earned a degree in English, as well as one in Music. Lofty as all that studying (or lack thereof) may have been, I use little to none of my majors in my current job at a small law firm.

I am the proud owner of a seemingly small bluish/grey cat who goes by the name of Buffy (yes, after the vampire slayer). She often seems to prefer other members of my family more than me, yet I dole out as much affection as I can in her direction... plus, as I like to remind her (using a line I nipped from Groundhog Day) "I bought you. I own you."

What else? Sometimes I think I might be a bit neurotic... but I embrace that. Shouldn't we all? And clearly, I enjoy the art of random babble (and, apparently, the skillful art of the run-on sentence).

What's Goes On?

Username: Why antionionroll? Well, apart from the fact that I actually am quite anti-onions (yuck), the name came from the following line in the musical Funny Girl:

Suppose all ya ever had for breakfast was onion rolls. Then one day, in walks (gasp) a bagel! You'd say, 'Ugh, what's that?' Until you tried it! That's my problem - I'm a bagel on a plate full of onion rolls.

As for what I write about most, you'll notice quite quickly that I'm a pop culture junkie. Apart from my general randomness (of which there is a lot), you'll run into quite a few entries about the following topics:

1. TV - I watch too much TV (of all kinds) and I tend to complain about it here. Umm... I mean comment on it. Right, that's what I mean. As you can tell from my interests list below, my TV viewing is varied... everything from current shows to cult classics like Dark Shadows. I'm a sucker for 60's and 70's sitcoms too. And I Love Lucy. I also have this strange fascination with watching Brazilian novelas... really, once you start watching novelas you get hooked!

2. The Beatles - yes, they broke up almost 40 years ago, but that really hasn't stopped me yet. You could ask me to explain why, but that would take a while. Let's just say, I admire the music and I admire the men. Who's my favorite? Could change on any given day. I try to be non-committal, but really it's George Harrison (though Paul McCartney was my first love).

3. Figure Skating - Now here's the thing... I'm not a figure skater (I wish). Still that doesn't stop me from being pretty obsessed with competitive skating. As a result, much of my time during skating season is spent watching events online (too bad I don't understand Russian)and trying to figure out the ever-changing Code of Points (much to my level 4 annoyance). My love of skating started with Scott Hamilton (hey, he's from Bowling Green so I'm trying hard to overlook his horrid commentating... believe me that's not easy) and continues on with Johnny Weir (who I could not adore more if I tried).

4. The Detroit Tigers - I may be babbling now and again (or constantly) about the Tigers. I try to pretend I'm not a crazy fan, but I think everyone around me knows that's a big lie. Apparently, after years of casually keeping up because my family's been a Tigers family since way back when, my dormant baseball-fan gene finally kicked in. My grandfather would be SO proud. Plus, on a totally girly note, I love Justin Verlander :)
